Description of the workshops

SavingIceland Saving Iceland is a group of people that are fighting the destruction of the Icelandic wilderness at the hands of heavy industry. In Iceland a series of ecologically catastrophic power projects are being build to provide cheap energy to multinational aluminium corporations. Last year Europe's largest rock filled dam, Karahnjukar, destroyed some of the continents greatest nature to power one aluminium smelter. Now with the recent election of another right wing government, every single major glacial river and geyser on the island is to be destroyed for more smelters. Action is needed URGENTLY.

For the past two summers Saving Iceland has coordinated protest camps in Iceland from which direct actions against these huge projects have been launched, introducing the island to radical forms of protest. This years camp will open on July 6th and will start with an international conference on the global effects of heavy industry.

Activists from Saving Iceland will be around in the Convergence Center giving workshops and being open for discussion, hoping to mobilise people to join the campaign and the camp this summer in Iceland. Come and find out about being a part of a creative and new struggle to defend one of the most beautiful parts of the planet.
