Antisexist Awareness group

Sexism and sexual violence are encountered in the Antiglobalisation movement just like in general society. This is experienced by radical left activists in their yearlong experiences with large protest activities as well as in their normal day to day life. An awareness group is therefore being created in order to face this reality. We would like to set up this group in opposition and to support meetings about sexual violence. The group will make it its duty to politicize themes of sexism and sexual violence. We want to arrange rooms for discussion and exchange, to build an anti-sexist network, to initiate debate, to bring attention to sexism and to instigate prevention. The main focus of the work is not just to meet, but to ask to take part in the prevention and to create a place of shelter. We insist that the power to decide what an act of sexual violence entails lies with the people who have experienced it.
We are looking for people who want to work with this group during the week of June 1-8 2007.

Re-igniting an Anarchist Network between North America and Europe

This is an open discussion about the current relatively poor state of communication between North American and European autonomous and anarchist revolutionaries. During the heyday of the "anti-globalization" movement in the USA, autonomists anarchists were at the forefront of the global struggle against capitalism, but the movement in the USA lost its momentum after Sept. 11th. Recently, at the Zapatista Encuentro, anarchists from across Mexico, including anarchists involved with APPO in Oaxaca, declared their desire for a network for solidarity, mutual aid, and direct action. Advice from European comrades is sorely needed.

SavinIceland

Saving Iceland is a group of people that are fighting the destruction of the Icelandic wilderness at the hands of heavy industry. In Iceland a series of ecologically catastrophic power projects are being build to provide cheap energy to multinational aluminium corporations. Last year Europe's largest rock filled dam, Karahnjukar, destroyed some of the continents greatest nature to power one aluminium smelter. Now with the recent election of another right wing government, every single major glacial river and geyser on the island is to be destroyed for more smelters. Action is needed URGENTLY.

For the past two summers Saving Iceland has coordinated protest camps in Iceland from which direct actions against these huge projects have been launched, introducing the island to radical forms of protest. This years camp will open on July 6th and will start with an international conference on the global effects of heavy industry.

Activists from Saving Iceland will be around in the Convergence Center giving workshops and being open for discussion, hoping to mobilise people to join the campaign and the camp this summer in Iceland. Come and find out about being a part of a creative and new struggle to defend one of the most beautiful parts of the planet.
