Bob Geldof Lashes Out Against G8, Gets Criticized By Town Chief

Africa is really on everyone’s mind right now. Bob Geldof isn’t too happy with how the G8 nations–the US, the UK, France, Japan, Canada, Germany, Italy, and Russia, for those who need to know–are dealing with poverty in the continent. The eight nations pledged to extend support to Africa two years ago and it looks like they’re nowhere near meeting their goals.

“When they put their name, they sign the pride, the honour and the dignity of their respective countries. You do not break that,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.

“You particularly don’t break it because the promise of the rich to the poor, [when] broken, kills the poor.”

But the G8’s not the only one being accused of reneging on promises. Bob himself is getting slammed by a town chief in Ghana because he hasn’t followed through on his promise to help develop the town of Bisease. His spokesperson said Bob didn’t promise to develop Bisease, however, and was simply made an honorary chief during one of his visits. Even so, it seems like he should check first if he missed out on any commitments before pointing an accusing finger at anybody.
