In 2005 the G8 (a
Group of Eight of the worlds largest economies and most powerful
nation-states) returns to Europe. As in recent years, resistance is
being organised.
The Dissent! Network was set up in the
autumn of 2003 to begin co-ordinating radical resistance to the Summit
and to build a lasting anti-capitalist movement in the UK. The
Network consists of a number of autonomous local and working groups,
all of which work within the hallmarks of Peoples' Global Action (PGA) When
the G8 meet at Gleneagles hotel in Perthshire, Scotland (around 60km
north of Edinburgh), the Dissent! Network are calling for people to
join the convergences in Scotland and take action around the
Summit. Various calls to action are emerging through the
network. The Peoples' Global Action European Conference, which
took place in Belgrade in July 2004, has agreed a call for people to
converge in Scotland to disrupt the Summit and is also callingfor simultaneous actions in villages, towns and cities worldwide on the opening day of the Conference: Wednesday 6th July 2005.
