Update from the Educational Roadshow PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 22 August 2004
Intelligent Rage is a popular education Collective based in the UK which aims to provoke debate and inspire positive social change through teach-ins, interactive workshops.

Our backgrounds and interests are diverse ranging from international solidarity work in Mexico and Argentina, environmental and anti-globalisation campaigns, environmental and social change projects in Spain, and theatre, media and music projects in the UK.

Our origins are in ‘DISSENT!' (see http://www.dissent.org.uk), a network organising resistance and building awareness about the Group of 8 nations who are holding their annual meeting in Scotland in July 2005.

Our approach focuses on:
  • Getting to know the group and its context beforehand;
  • Working with existing experiences and different levels of knowledge within groups;
  • Finding out what groups want to achieve from educational sessions;
  •  Stimulating debate and free thinking rather than dictating facts;
  • Helping with future action plans.

In the build up to this meeting, between October 2004 and July 2005, Intelligent Rage are offering educational sessions for free with interested groups.
We can offer tailor-made workshops ranging from one hour to half a day, and can alter them to suit different age groups.

The topics we can cover in these workshops include:

  • A Background to the G8 and those who oppose it
  • Understanding the world casino economy - the World Bank, World Trade Organisation, the International Monetary Fund Climate Change, Climate Chaos, War and Oil
  • Media Literacy - how to read beyond the corporate media
  • Global Citizenship - Living Alternatives Poverty and globalisation

Our sessions use a mixture of visual aids, interactive games and workshops, videos, and hand-outs. We are compiling this material on CD Rom for groups to use for themselves. We are also keen to offer social events comprising perhaps a benefit gig for a local cause, pub quizzes, karaoke, bingo, DJ's etc.
We are keen to hold these workshops in a variety of locations - community centres, workplaces, youth centres, 6th form colleges, schools, campaign groups.

  If you are interested in hosting a workshop from Intelligent Rage, get in touch.
