The G8 Earth Activist Course, to be held from 287th May until the 5th June, is a special, short
Permaculture Course which is specially directed to
helping with preparations for the planned encampments,
convergence centres and community outreach leading up
to the G8 protests in early July.We will be working
with many groups that are protesting the G8, not just
Dissent, although many no doubt will be working with
Dissent in particular. The training course is already
full with fifty people, and will be taught by Starhawk
and Erik Ohlsen in conjunction with Scottish
ecologists and permaculture designers.
For the actual creation of the eco-village, we will be
working as individuals in the consensus meetings that
will run the site or sites. We begin our class with
reviewing the basics of permaculture and ecological
design. We will apply permaculture principles,
practices and techniques to the challenges of building
an eco-base camp for the protests of the upcoming G8
summit in Gleneagles, Scotland. We will help the
existing working groups already working on the
convergence design both an urban and rural centre,
considering ways to provide for basic sanitation and
shelter, meeting spaces, security, social spaces, etc.
and how to leave both the land and the community
healthier than we found them. Hands-on sessions will
teach the skills necessary to realize these designs.
We will end with a training course that enables
everyone on the course to have a solid grasp of the
skills they need to be trainers themselves.
