Call Out for Blockades at Gleneagles |

There has been a call to autonomous direct action groups to be part of
a series of blockades which aim to disrupt the functioning of the
summit of the G8 in Scotland. The reason that we chose this method of
action was because we believe that this strategy would be more
effective in stopping the smooth running of the summit. Our decision is
a result of our experience from previous mobilisations against the G8
and the IMF.
The G8 are holding their meeting in the luxurious golf centre in
Gleneagles, creating an area around the location unapproachable for
anyone who is opposed to their dominance. As the resistance to global
capitalism has developed in recent times, becoming visible during the
days of the G8, EU & WTO summits, the use of the Red Zone as a
militaristic response and manifestation of their power has escalated
The Blockades will encompass a diversity of tactics and there is
network of co-ordinating groups which will provide logistical
information on where the blockades need to be organised. The
environment where these blockades will happen and the possible tactics
of the police will be presented in the build up to July 6th. We expect
a number of blockades both in the rural areas near Gleneagles and in
the Cities where the delegates for the summit will stay.
There has been no definition on what tactics should or shouldn't be
used and the blockades will be open for all groups to participate.
There will be certain initiatives which will chose to define the nature
of their blockade and the method of action that they will use. This
will be co-ordinated at both the rural and urban convergence sites. |
