Resist the 2005 G8 Summit – ESF Meetings PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 07 October 2004

[Czech][Italiano][Français][Deutsch][Svenska]
In 2005 the G8 (a Group of Eight of the worlds largest economies and most powerful nation-states) returns to Europe. As in recent years, resistance is being organised.
The Dissent! Network was set up in the autumn of 2003 to begin co-ordinating radical resistance to the Summit and to build a lasting anti-capitalist movement in the UK.  The Network consists of a number of autonomous local and working groups, all of which work within the hallmarks of Peoples' Global Action (PGA)
When the G8 meet at Gleneagles hotel in Perthshire, Scotland (around 60km north of Edinburgh), the Dissent! Network are calling for people to join the convergences in Scotland and take action around the Summit.   Various calls to action are emerging through the network.  The Peoples' Global Action European Conference, which took place in Belgrade in July 2004, has agreed a call for people to converge in Scotland to disrupt the Summit and is also callingfor simultaneous actions in villages, towns and cities  worldwide on the opening day of the Conference:

Wednesday 6th July 2005.

The mobilisation to Scotland next year, and the Global Day of Action, is beginning to be networked and co-ordinated internationally.
During the European Social Forum (ESF), taking place in London from October 13th-17th 2004, the Dissent! Network are hosting a ‘Day of Dissent Against the G8'.
The event will take place at the Beyond ESF event,  autonomous from the ‘official' Social Forum.

DAY OF DISSENT!

Middlesex University, White Hart Lane Campus, London, N17 8HR (opposite White Hart Lane train station) from 11am on Friday 15th October 2004.

The day will include educational workshops, skill sharing, training, discussions, debates, opportunities to become involved with working groups, and time to meet with groups involved in the mobilisation.   It will be a chance to discuss and plan actions, and share and compare our experiences of past mobilisations.

The Day of Dissent! will be followed by a benefit party from 9pm.

Educational Roadshow launches of at Edinburgh Dissent! gathering PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 12 September 2004

trapesecsmall.jpgRoll up for the  flight of the TRAPEASE, flying through the high ether of climate change, oil-war, the G8 and civil disobedience, crashing spectacularly to the ground with brief interactive workshops, a pubquiz, short films and music.

The roadshow is an evolving part of the "Educate the G8" collective.

We want to inform and mobilise people to take positive action around the issues behind the G8.

Renewable energies, popular education, alternative medias and grassroots participation are our thing. Oil fuelled profit crazy big Corp government, not.

Come check out the show, tell us what you think, get involved and find out more about the Dissent! network.

Monday, 26 July 2004

miffi swings golf club The G8 (Group of eight most industrialised nations) Summit will be held at Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, about 40 miles/70 kilometres away from Edinburgh, in Scotland from 6-8th of July 2005.
In past years, everywhere they have tried to meet they have been met with a massive response from the world's social movements.

Now, in Britain, a network of groups and individuals is emerging that resists the Summit, and forms a lasting movement against capitalism.

The next Dissent! Gathering will take place in Edinburgh on 17th-19th September 2004.

Come along and get involved!
