The
G8 Summit is coming to Britain in the early summer of 2005. It
is a meeting of the global elite that offers an unique opportunity for
people to take action against one of the most powerful symbols of
capitalism's most recent form: the neo-liberal world order.
In preparation the pamphlet Days of Dissent: Refections on
Summit
Mobilisations has been produced. This pamphlet offers a
collection of voices from past mobilisations. From the 1988
IMF
and World Bank meeting in West Berlin to the much more recent
mobilisation against the WTO Ministerial in Cancun, Mexico in autumn
2003, each article is by someone who was directly involved in the
mobilisation. They attempt to explain why movements decided
to
mobilise, how they went about doing so, how the events unfolded and -
most importantly of all - they attempt to assess what lessons can be
learned. As groups and movements from the UK and further
afield
begin to consider what our response to the G8 Summit should be we hope
these articles will contribute to a process of reflection; of learning
from our collective history, from our mistakes as well as our
successes. We hope these articles provide inspiration for
action.
"Days of Dissent: Reflections on Summit Mobilisations" articles can be found at www.daysofdissent.org.uk. The documents can
