'Hori-Zone'. The Rural Convergence Space |
|
|
|
Thursday, 23 June 2005 |
The Hori-zone is an autonomous, convergence space (17) at Borrowmeadow Farm, FK7 7SQ Stirling open from 1st - 9th July
(look it up on map before setting out and if coming to setup bring a map with you)
It
is a zone of self-organisation, horizontal decision
making, ecology and autonomy in action. It is a radical campsite in
resistance to the G8, presenting ways of organizing in an open and
participatory way, inviting all to take hold of their own lives and
take a part in the creation of their own futures. The
site will be organised into autonomous"neighbourhoods" Each
neighbourhood will strive for self-sufficiency, in both political and
practical
terms, but will also contribute to the running and well-being of the
entire site - this includes cleaning, organising, cooking,
action
planning, entertainment safety. Neighbourhoods are encouraged to
discuss
issues as a group then bring their views to a spokes council where
their collective voice/s are represented. We encourage you to stay with
one of the neighbourhoods and use that as your base. If you are not yet
in a neighbourhood do not fear! You can join one at any stage,
spontaneously make up one or come along to spokes council meetings as
an individual or observer.
The
site will have accessible loos, medic tents, action planning
areas, entertainment area, a women's space also open to children up to
16, a kids space, recycling points, and chill out and healing area.
A number of kitchens from the UK and beyond, will be providing cheap,
vegan food and hot drinks by donation in neighbourhoods (with a larger
kitchen cooking for non-neighbourhood areas).
All
the kitchens are non profit and volunteer run. Help with cooking and
washing is appreciated by the kitchens. the space will be shared with
People and Planet who are hosting a student activist village.
StirlingIs
a city about 1 hour from Edinburgh and Glasgow on the River Forth. The
bus and train station are next to each other in the centre of the city.
The convergence space is less than one mile east of the city centre on
the banks of the River Forth near Stirling Albion football club at
Forth Bank Stadium just off the A91 see map at www.g8convergence2005.org
There will be frequent pick ups in the Convergence space minibuses from
the Stirling train and bus station. Limited shuttles will also run from
Edinburgh and Glasgow. There is some car parking next to the site, and
only limited on site parking. The best way to get there is by bus or
train. Site rules will be collectively agreed. They include:
don't bring a dog if you can avoid it, fires are restricted to
designated areas, respect quiet times and the safe spaces policy.
The
weather in Scotland can be cold and wet, even in summer, and midges are
a huge problem. Here are some things you should consider bringing for
